Nigeria took on Benin Republic at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Monday afternoon to resume play in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Super Eagles were doomed to a depressing 2-1 loss by Benin Republic, maintaining their dismal record in the FIFA World Cup qualifying round.

Nigeria took the lead in the 27th minute of the game when Raphael Onyedika opened the scoring with a brilliant strike to make the scoreline 1-0. Benin Republic got back into the game as they scored the equaliser in the 37th minute thanks to a fine close-range finish from Jodel Dossou. Just before the halftime break, Benin Republic scored again from a corner kick situation as Steven Mounie fired the ball home from close range to make the scoreline 2-1.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria had some good goalccoring chances in the second half of the encounter which they couldn’t convert as they eventually suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic at full-time.
