'You Cannot Believe It That Equipment to Track Criminals Are Not There' – According to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of Nigeria, Nyesom Wike, revealed on Monday that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the urgent purchase of tracking devices to address the rising number of abduction cases in the FCT and its surroundings, in response to the recent spike in crimes in Abuja. Wike, however, expressed surprise that, aside from the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Police Headquarters, security personnel in the area lack these tools for locating criminals. According to report by LEADERSHIP, Nyesom Wike made the disclosure during a media briefing at Abuja, where he said, “So many facilities were not provided. Vehicles for the Security agencies are not there. You cannot Believe that Equipment to Track criminals is not there. When anything happens, they return to the Office of the National Security Adviser or the Force Headquarters. That is not the way it is supposed to be.”

Wike added, “Again, before we came on board, the police had said that they had requested the procurement of a certain number of motorcycles where vehicles cannot get to the remote and mountainous areas. Unfortunately, they were not provided, but we will do that now. Security is not just this equipment. You also have to motivate the personnel. I don’t want to discuss the strategies because we are discussing security now.”

Meanwhile, the FCT Minister assured citizens that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to ensure the safety of residents of the Federal Capital Territory and the country at large.
