Yakasai responds as he was told that rice was sold for N30,000 in Buhari's administration

Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, a 99-year-old politician and human rights advocate, was a founding member of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), a liaison to former President Shehu Shagari during the Second Republic, and the former national secretary of the Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU). During an interview with Daily Trust correspondent, he spoke on the clamour for state police, return of Nigeria to the parliamentary system of government, and how Nigeria could get full dividends of democracy regardless of which system is eventually adopted.

When he was told that before former president Muhammadu Buhari left office, a bag of rice was not up to N30,000, but now, it is approaching N80,000. And that a bag of cement was not more than N3,000, but now, it is approaching N10,000, reacting to this, Yakasai said Tinubu needs more time to solve the problem.

When he was talking, he said, “I’ve seen changes. My experience is that people think that when a system is changed, the whole problem in the country will be over overnight. It is not possible anywhere in the world. You’ve to give time for the system to develop, for the new administration to study the problems, and devise strategies on how to deal with them.”

Further talking, he said, “Nine months are not enough for Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Although he was a state governor, he is a different person now. He has some experience of running a government at the state level, but now, there are 36 states with over 200 million people. So it is a different situation all together.” CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
