Following criticism of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, over the rise in violent crimes and kidnappings in Abuja, the Minister has counseled political candidates not to take advantage of security concerns for political advantage. He emphasized that prior administrations had to deal with serious violent situations, like as the attack on Kuje Prison, and did not hold the then-Minister of the Federal Capital Territory accountable. As reported by CABLE, the FCT Minister referenced the assault on the United Nations (UN) Headquarters, emphasizing that even developed countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom encounter violent attacks from criminals.

According to Nyesom Wike, He said, “Nigerians forget easily and that is why we have always said let’s not play politics with the issue of security. Remember, some time ago, in the last administration, we were told that bandits came to Kuje Prison and wreaked havoc. Nobody said there was no minister of FCT. There was a minister.”
