Sen. Jibrin Barau, the deputy president of the Senate, has stated that every Nigerian has the freedom to live anywhere in the nation. He has pointed out that Senator Ireti Kingibe, the current senator of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, is a Yoruba woman who won an election there and was not told to go back to her home state.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
According to Daily Post, Senator Jibrin made this disclosure on Wednesday, while kicking against the bill seeking for the establishment of the National Animal Husbandry and Ranches Commission. He claimed that the bill was targeted at relocating Fulani herders to their various states of origin.
The Deputy Senate President said: “Who is the current Senator of FCT? She is a Yoruba native, but she has won the election here. Nobody told her to return to her state.”
Furthermore, he noted that he won his first election in Tarauni Federal Constituency in the year 1999 from Kano Central, noting that he hails from Kano North and told him go back to Kano North, thereby demanding to know why Nigerians want herders to go back to their states of origin.
The lawmaker went on and noted that some of these Fulani herders have forgotten their home states, noting that they only see themselves as Nigerians. He thereby urged the Nigerian Senate to remove the bill.
In addition, he urged the Senate to address the issue properly, so that people will be able to do business wherever they reside, irrespective of their tribe or religion.
Senator Titus Tartenger Zam, from Benue State, on Wednesday, sponsored a bill, seeking for the establishment of the National Animal Husbandry and Ranches Commission.
Senator Barau’s effort to shut down the bill failed, as majority of the lawmakers okayed the bill when Senate President, Godswill Akpabio put it to voice vote.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
