The administration of Liberty School Ikota in Lagos has reacted to a widely shared video in which Ms. Folake Olaleye, a former employee, angrily protested her extreme hunger and survival challenges. The Daily Trust reported on Tuesday that the school has made support available through its resources and clarified that Olaleye’s termination in 2020 was the result of due procedure and competency assessments, which she failed.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

In the viral video, Olaleye, an indigene of Ibadan, Oyo State, who has lived in Lagos for over 50 years, expressed her desperation, stating that she could barely afford one meal a day and was struggling to survive.

She said that was a teacher at Liberty School, Ikota before she was unjustly sacked. Olaleye who was seen hawking water and drinks in traffic said that since her sack life has been very difficult for her and her children, and that they barely have food to eat.

She had said, “I can barely afford to eat once a day. The hunger has become too much. It is unbearable. My children are suffering. There is no money in my pocket.

“Does this government want to kill us? Overthinking wants to kill me. I can no longer survive. It is too much for me to bear. The government should come to my aid.”

In its reaction, the school management acknowledged her plight and assured that she would receive financial assistance equivalent to what she would have been entitled to under the pension scheme, despite her ineligibility.

The school said that the decision to terminate her contract was made impartially, prioritizing the students’ educational standards.

They also acknowledged the specific age and eligibility conditions for pension access but committed to providing compassionate financial assistance.

The school management said, “We will ensure that Ms Olaleye receives, at a minimum, an amount equivalent to what she would have been entitled to under the pension scheme had she met the eligibility requirements.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
