Troops responded To The calls And Were Able To Intervene In The 19 Villages - According to Defense Headquarters

In a statement made public by Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defense Media Operations, on December 30, 2023, General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defense Staff, stated that the Nigerian Army had intervened in nineteen villages during the recent attack in Plateau State after receiving distress calls. According to Premium Times, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba said “The distance between some of these villages and troops’ locations is over 90 kilometers and sometimes difficult to access because of the rugged terrain which are mostly inaccessible to vehicles. Thus, affecting the reaction time to incidents, except when there is credible intelligence before the attack. The militants unleashed mayhem on the villagers before the arrival of troops to the location. Troops responded to the calls and were able to intervene in 19 villages forcing the militants to withdraw. Unfortunately, the havoc had been committed before troops arrived at the other villages.”

Major General Edward Buba emphasized that Operation Whirl Stroke by the Nigerian Army was usually used to checkmate armed banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba states which contributed to the peace in Plateau State until the recent attack in the State.
