Despite President Bola Tinubu’s statement that he would not tolerate military failure, Senator Ali Ndume, who represents the Borno South Senatorial District, has expressed worries over the deficiency of vital weapons for the Nigerian army. In an interview with Channels TV, Ndume questioned the efficiency of oversight given that the army’s budget for this year is estimated to be around $700 billion. He emphasized the crucial connection between output and resource availability, saying that it is impractical to anticipate extraordinary outcomes in the absence of the necessary tools, instruction, and drive. While expressing concern for the pay levels of security agencies, Senator Ndume emphasized the need for adequate compensation to complement the challenging tasks they undertake, including risking their lives. He pointed out the contradiction between President Tinubu’s firm stance on not tolerating failure and the insufficient weaponry provided to the army.
