Drawing on her eight years of close work with Buhari, Adesina claimed in an interview with Arise TV that such charges were baseless. He provided a personal story to dispel these myths and demonstrate Buhari’s inclusiveness. He stated that Buhari appointed him as spokesperson in spite of the fact that he is a pastor and that, on their first Christmas together in 2015, Buhari urged him to celebrate with his family. Adesina claims that this incident disproves the idea of religious prejudice and dispels unfavorable opinions about Buhari’s leadership.

In Adesina’s words, “They say Buhari is a religious bigot, I am [a Pastor] and you will be surprised he chose me. In fact, the first Christmas we spent together in December 2015, he was the one who called me, he said ‘I know you are a church person, go and spend Christmas with your family and when you come back, me too I will go on holiday’.
