Senator Shehu Sani, a former senator from the Kaduna Central Senatorial District, responded to the persistent rumors that, should Nigeria defeat South Africa in their semifinal match, there would be attacks against Nigerians living in South Africa, in a post on his verified X handle. While Sani was reacting to this speculation, he said, “Dear South Africans, the speculation going around is that the lives of Nigerians living in South Africa are at risk if Bafana loses to the Nigerian team,the Super Eagles.”

Further talking, he said that violence, lawlessness and thuggery should not continue to be a recurring decimal in the relationship between Nigeria and South Africa. And apart from the history of our unflinching support for their freedom, presently, South Africa has much more in stock and at stake in Nigeria than Nigerians do in South Africa.
