The President Approved Funds For Universities But Some People Are Trying To Arm-twist The VCs -According to Jega

Professor Attahiru Jega, a former chairman of INEC, has said that some people are manipulating funds that President Tinubu has sanctioned for institutions in an effort to pressure vice chancellors. He highlighted that a large portion of corruption is still hidden from the public and voiced alarm over the amount of corruption that has come to light. He criticized the abuse of authority and positions to take advantage of public resources for private benefit and pushed for a change in strategy to use opportunities for public service to make significant contributions to institutional growth. He acknowledged the worrisome nature of these issues and expressed hope that, given time, there will be a concerted effort to address and overcome these challenges with a more focused trajectory.

He said in an interview with Channels TV, ”What we hear is the prevailing corruption in the sphere of governance. And many of it is already coming out. There is a lot of it that has been said and is not out in the public domain I can tell you for example now that, the President approved funds for Universities but some people are trying to arm-twist the VCs. It is terrible.

That mindset of using power and positions to access Public resources for personal selfish ends rather than using the opportunity of Public Service to contribute to adding value to Institutional development and growth.
