The Herders After Crossing The Road With Their Cattle Waited At The Roadside To Attack People -According to Bello

The reason behind the deadly conflict between the Mangu youths and the herders in Plateau state has been revealed by Dayeng Emmanuel Bello, the Chairman of the Youth Movement in Mangu District. He disclosed that someone had reported that at approximately 5:40 that day, he was attacked by herders. He stated that the data collected suggested that on that specific day, the herders crossed the road with their animals and then waited by the side of the road to attack other persons. He highlighted the brazenness of the attacks, occurring in broad daylight between 5 to 6 pm, in close proximity to a military checkpoint. He urged for accountability, emphasizing that perpetrators of such acts should be brought to justice, given the reported incidents and their proximity to a military presence.

He said in an interview with AIT, ”Certain headers used to go to rear their cattles. So when they finish rearing their cattles around 5:40 pm that day. When I was still in my office, I received a distress call from just within Mangu. The caller made it known to me that he was attacked by the herders that were trying to take their cattles back to their home.

I had to send one of my personnel to the scene. The information we got was that, the herders after crossing the road with their cattle waited at the roadside to attack people. That series of attack happened around last year November. We thought that would have been contended by the security because we have reported the issue to them. The attack happened around 5 to 6 in the broad daylight. Perpetrators of such act should have been brought to book.
