Prominent human rights attorney Deji Ajare has urged Kogi State House of Assembly Speaker Umar Yusuf to start the impeachment process against the incumbent governor, Usman Ododo. The controversy stems from an event reported by The Punch, where Governor Ododo is said to have helped his predecessor escape detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC sought to apprehend Bello in relation to a substantial money laundering case involving N80.2 billion.

Ajare has stressed the necessity for the state assembly to work in unison with the EFCC to guarantee that all individuals implicated are made available for comprehensive questioning and investigation.
