The Fulanis Believe They Are Being Put In Prison For A Lot Of Things They Have Not Done -According to Adebayo Shittu

Adebayo Shittu, a former minister of communication, has claimed that the Fulani people’s experience of being wrongfully convicted and imprisoned for perceived wrongdoings is what intensifies the continuous insecurity problem and has been the source of a decades-long uprising. He emphasized the human element of the situation by pointing out that some of them are forced to live in the forest because of oppression and lack of access to chances in life. He suggested that the starting point for addressing this challenge is the implementation or enhancement of free education at all levels by government bodies at the National, Federal, and state levels.

He said in an interview with Channels TV, ”I”‘m told that what aggravates the situation of this insecurity over the years is that, the Fulanis believe they are being put in prison for a lot of things they believe they have not done. And this thing has continued over decades. And they got to a stage where they felt a sense of rebellion. That is also human being for you. They don’t have an education, they don’t have anything to life.

And they are being oppressed with due respect. That is why you find young people who decide to go and live in the bush in the forest because they have nothing to do. And you are not talking of 10,000 people, you are not talking of 20,000 people. They are in hundreds and thousands who do not see any hope in love except that they want to take a pound of flesh from the rest of the society.
