'The Aircraft we sighted from a distance descending to land. It was at about three top levels' - According to Gen Ali-Keffi

Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi, a former general officer commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, has related the events leading up to the jet disaster that claimed the life of the late General Ibrahim Attahiru, the former Chief of Army State. He disclosed that the Chief of Army Staff was seen being flown in an aircraft that was seen to be landing from a distance, approximately at three upper levels. As they got closer to the tarmac, he said that to greet them. Upon arriving at the tarmac, he observed with sadness that the airplane was not on the runway but rather had a blazing flame at the side. He stated that the aircraft, which had crashed from a moderate altitude, did not exhibit characteristics of disintegration. According to him, a fall from such a height would result in a more defined impact, leaving a crater on the ground, but no such evidence was observed at the scene.

He said in an interview with Arise TV, ”The Aircraft we sighted from a distance descending to land. It was at about three top levels. When we rounded the bend to the tarmac. We prepared to go and receive him at the front of the aircraft. I even directed my camp that they should get the orderly to come with two umbrellas for us. By the time we got to the tarmac, the aircraft should be tasking to a stop.

We didn’t sight the aircraft on the runway. We looked frantically around and then we saw a burning flame by the side of the runway. It was the aircraft burning. The aircraft was at 3 top level, the altitude wasn’t so high to have disintegrated. If an aircraft should fall from that height, it would fall like a box. And then if it falls from that height, the impact will come with dead weight, and there will be some crater in the ground. Let’s not forget, it was on the soft ground and not on the hard runway. But there wasn’t anything like that.” CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

  1. I don’t know who this reporter is but spelling errors have marred this piece. I am sure the writer meant ‘tree-top height’ but wrote ‘three (3) top levels’ instead. A plane can only taxi down or up the run way but not ‘tasking’ as written.
