Following his 16th goal of the season, Hojlund has become United’s top scorer, just ten months after his £72 million transfer from Atalanta.
Fernandes had previously taken on the ‘false nine’ role in a 3-1 loss to City in March, a formation Ten Hag had been trying in preparation for the FA Cup final.
Reacting to Hojlund’s impact, Ten Hag said, “He came in after we scored and showed great freshness, scoring two great goals and making a strong impression.”
He added that the decision between formations is a “luxury problem” for the team, indicating that both setups could be effective.
“I think it’s a luxury problem and I think both formations can be a success because, as you know, we can play like the set-up in the Etihad where we were a threat, with movement in behind.
