In a video shared on YouTube by Daily Trust TV, Basil said kidnappers forced him into a bus near the police staff college and pointed guns at him, leaving him with no choice but to obey their commands. He said the kidnappers asked him to raise his shirt and he complied because he was terrified for his life. He said they wrapped what they claimed to be a bomb around his waist and handed him two bags, instructing him to enter the bank and demand one hundred million naira. He said they warned him that they had eyes inside the bank and their accomplices were waiting outside to detonate the bomb if he raised any alarms.
