In an interview with Arise TV, Okolugbo stated that there has long been a rumor that Endurance, the person thought to be the mastermind behind the attack, works with mercenaries. Okolugbo says Endurance knew the region well and that there were unresolved issues between his gang and the military about oil bunkering, which is why he started the attack.
In Okolugbo’s words: “The man they said is behind the attack has been said to work with mercenaries, they refer to him as Endurance. He is the one who knows the terrain and who knows what has been going on. It has been said that there have been undercurrent issues between these people and the soldiers as regards oil bunkering so they took advantage of that visit and the accusation and counter-accusation that they had come to intervene in the land matters.
