In an interview with Channels TV, Okonkwo said since Okupe resigned as Director-General of Peter Obi’s campaign, he did not participate in any Labour Party activities. He said the only time he saw Okupe since his resignation as DG was when he (Okupe) exited a private Jet alongside an APC governorship candidate in Ogun. Also, he acknowledged Okupe’s right to resign from the Labour Party but expressed concern over his use of the term “Special purpose vehicle,” to describe the party.

In Okonkwo’s words: “Since Okupe resigned It was only once I saw him coming out of private jet [with APC candidate]. Since he resigned as the DG, there was no other activity he ever participated in, in the Labour Party that is why I said he constructively actually left the party then. The only time I saw him was when he was coming out of the plane with the APC gubernatorial candidate in Ogun State, that was the only time I saw him publicly. He just resigned, he has not joined any place, but the only place I saw him was coming out of the plane the APC candidate, I think they went commission one project or something”.
