The next constitutional amendment should explicitly state that a state governor has the authority to appoint traditional rulers, such as an emir or an oba, but that the National Council of Traditional Rulers is the only body with the authority to remove a traditional ruler. Senator Shehu Sani made this disclosure in a post he made on his official X handle on Saturday evening, while reacting to the current throne tussle going on in Kano Emirate. He went on and demanded to know whether such suggestion should be implemented.
Senator Shehu Sani wrote: “In the next Constitutional amendment, it should be stated that ‘A Governor can appoint an Emir, Oba or King but only the National Council of Traditional Rulers can remove him’. Do you agree or Disagree with this proposal?”
