According to AIT, this decision follows the dismissal of Rear Admiral Yaminu Ehinomen Musa (Rtd), the pioneer National Coordinator, who was appointed in August 2022 by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Major-General Laka brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in various capacities in North-East Nigeria.

Additionally, his international experience includes deployments to Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo under the United Nations, as well as participation in the United States AFRICOM exercise in Senegal.

His academic qualifications are equally impressive, holding Master’s Degrees in National Security from the National Defence University, Pakistan, and in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy.

President Tinubu’s decision to appoint Major-General Laka shows the importance of combatting terrorism and enhancing national security in Nigeria. It signals a commitment to strengthening the country’s defense mechanisms and addressing the challenges posed by insurgent groups operating within its borders.
