President Tinubu's New Year Speech, Reno Omokri Reacts

Reno Omokri, a political analyst and former presidential assistant, responds to President Bola Tinubu’s New Year’s Day address with a series of tweets, pointing out that the administration did not issue a call for sacrifice. Omokri acknowledged the nation’s economic difficulties and the President’s tough choices, which resulted to a 28% inflation rate. Omokri underlined that before asking people to make sacrifices, the government need to set an example. He listed specific demands of the President, including the sale of extra planes in the Presidential Air Fleet, travel bans, encouragement of the purchase of items manufactured in Nigeria, and the recall of military personnel for critical tasks in areas of high security.

The activist also suggested ending government sponsorship of pilgrimages and adopting a low-profile approach to demonstrate a commitment to prudent spending. Omokri believed that such measures would not only make the President a national hero but also unite the nation.

Concluding his tweets, Omokri extended New Year wishes to all Nigerians and offered prayers for wisdom for leaders at the federal, state, and local levels. He emphasized that it’s not too late for the President to take transformative actions, urging a shift toward policies that resonate with the citizens and disarm political opponents.
