Police Describes in details of how 21-year-old welder who fabricates AK-47 rifles was arrested

Niger State Police agency personnel detained a 21-year-old welder who was allegedly an expert in making AK-47 rifles just as he was ready to sell one of the weapons, the agency claimed on Saturday, March 30, 2024. According to the statement by the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun and posted on his Facebook wall on Saturday, he was arrested in Mandela area of Minna with three fabricated AK-47 rifles during an attempt to sell one of them.

In the course of investigation, he was said to have led the police team to a house within Mandela area, where he claimed he was working as a guard and two other rifles were recovered from the premises where he hid them.

According to the statement: “During interrogation, he confessed that he was a welder at Kuta and that he had been working with one Bala who is at large. He added that the said Bala specialized in carving the wooden parts of the rifles, while he fabricated the iron parts. He confessed further that he had fabricated over twenty rifles with Bala.”

He also told the operatives that he had sold three of the same rifles to some buyers for N100,000 each while two rifles among the three recovered were also meant to be sold at the same rate.

He was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives while efforts are on to arrest the buyers in order to recover the rifles.
