In response to a recent statement made by Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, asserting that the judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pose the biggest threats to the nation’s democracy, Mr. Yerima Shettima, the president of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), has responded. While reacting, Shettima countered the claim that was made by Mr Obi, maintaining that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is a credible, impartial and unbiased institution.
According to Vanguard, Shettima made this disclosure in a statement he issued on Saturday, thereby urging the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to continue with its good work.
He went on and noted that Peter Obi has vindicated their stance and affirmed that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is not the primary obstacle to democratic electoral practices in Nigeria.
The Arewa Youth leader went on and commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for its dedication to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process in the country and safeguarding the democratic of Nigerians.
It should be recalled that the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, during the 2023 presidential election, Mr Peter Obi, recently slammed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and the judiciary, noting that these two Institutions are the greatest challenge to the country’s democracy.
