Oyo: Kidnap Victim “Our only saving grace was the rain which fell in the middle of the night”

On Sunday, May 12, near Longe Village, along Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road, in Oyo State, two farmers—named Mr. Emmanuel Olalere and Mr. Gbenga Idowu—were taken hostage by some kidnappers who were allegedly Fulani gunmen. In an interview with a correspondent for The Nigerian Tribune, the two victims described their experiences at the hands of their kidnappers, claiming that if it had been foreseen, they would not have imagined such a thing could happen to them.

It was reported that their freedom did not come free, as they paid the sum of N31 million to the kidnap, despite the torture and suffering they went through.

While he was recalling what they went through during their ordeal, Idowu said that on Sunday, May 12, he was coming from Ijebu Ode, with two other farmers, Mr Afolabi and one other person when they were kidnapped.

He said as soon as he got to Longe Village, he saw an armed man coming out of the bush around 6pm in the evening, and he thought the armed man was a soldier but he was wrong. Other kidnappers surrounded them and they were abducted.

He said that day was like magic unfolding when they suddenly came in contact with the kidnappers.They started torturing them immediately they took them inside bush, and they blindfolded them tightly.

He said, “Since I was born till my age now, I have never experienced the kind of torture I went through. We were not given food to taste or water till we were released. Our only saving grace was the rain which fell in the middle of the night.

Further talking, he said, “We used leaves to collect raindrops to drink. We were so beaten by the rain while they covered themselves with a very wide nylon. We were shivering from the cold brought by the rain which soaked our bodies.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
