Okuama: Source Reveals About 3 Speedboats Were Seen Coming To The Community, One Of Our Youths Captured One

More information about the March 14 event that resulted in the deaths of 17 soldiers in Okuama, in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, has been provided by a community leader in the area. The source claimed in an interview with Vanguard that the soldiers were sent to the Okuama village by the leader of the Okoloba community due to a land dispute he was having with the Okuama tribe. He said that when the soldiers came, the Okuama community leader was in the farm, but he was called from the farm because the soldiers said they wanted to meet the leadership of the community. He said that the soldiers were welcomed at the community town hall, and after that, the people asked them what they wanted.

According to the source, the soldiers told them they were there regarding a complaint they had received about a kidnapped Ijaw leader, and that they had come to search the community. He said that the soldiers searched the community and did not see anyone they had kidnapped.

Speaking further, he said that after searching, the soldiers said that they wanted to leave with the community chairman, secretary and other leaders, but the people refused.

He said, “The people refused, saying you said you came for peace talks and searched. Now, you want to go with our people.

“The people were wary of their agenda, and this brought argument, and the army opened fire and started shooting, people started running, and our people were not prepared for it, talk of fighting soldiers.”

He said that in the process, several people were killed, and that they have photographs to back up the claim. He said after the shooting, the soldiers headed towards the waterside.

He continued, “Other speedboats, about three were seen coming towards the community, one of our youths captured one of the boats, and they came for full attack, and opened fire on both the soldiers and some Okuama people around the jetty.
