Ojukwu: Sowore said. “When We Visited Police, They Said They Didn’t Know 2015 Cybercrime Act Was Amended

 

Omoyele Stephen Sowore, a Nigerian activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in 2023, has disclosed the information that the police sent him following his efforts to secure the release of FIJ journalist Daniel Ojukwu. In a post that Sowore shared on his official X handle on Tuesday, he said when he visited the cybercrime unit of the Nigerian police for the release of the journalist, the policemen claimed not to be aware of the amendment of the Cybercrimes Prohibition Act 2015 that was assented to by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in February 2024.

He said as it stands, the Central Bank of Nigeria ,CBN, is using the newly amended Cybercrimes Prohibition Act of 2015 to rob Nigerians while the Nigeria Police Force is using the old Cybercrimes Prohibition Act as a tool to cage journalists.

Omoyele Stephen Sowore wrote on his page;
