According to the report by Daily Post on Tuesday, Finidi George has given reasons why the Super Eagles lost the crucial game.

Speaking to newsmen, Finidi George attributed the loss to poor defending and a lack of concentration, which allowed the Cheetahs of Benin Republic to secure their second-ever win over Nigeria in 17 meetings.

Despite taking the lead, the Super Eagles failed to capitalize on their chances and conceded two goals, including a costly error from a long kick by the Benin Republic goalkeeper.

Finidi George acknowledged his team’s control of the game, but lamented their inability to defend effectively, particularly in the first half.

He said, “We scored a good goal and after that we lost concentration, they got their equalizer, and then they got their momentum.

“We didn’t defend well the long kick from the goalkeeper and they got their first goal. We had control of the game, but we didn’t defend well.

“If you don’t take your chances and don’t defend well in a World Cup qualifier, you pay for it.”

The defeat leaves Nigeria in fifth place in Group C with three points from four games, while Benin Republic tops the standings with seven points.

The statement from Finidi George has been met with mixed reactions from members of the public, with many taking to the comments section to share their views on it.
