Nigerian Reacts After Dangote Group Denies Selling Fuel At N898 Per Litre To NNPCL

The Dangote Group has refuted recent allegations made by Olufemi Soneye, a spokesman for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), claiming the company sold Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to the NNPC for N898 per liter.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

In a press statement released on September 15, 2024, Dangote Group described the claim as “misleading and mischievous,” asserting that it was a deliberate attempt to undermine a key milestone in Nigeria’s effort to address the country’s long-standing energy insufficiency and insecurity. The statement emphasized the significance of the achievement made on that day, noting its potential to alleviate the challenges that have plagued the Nigerian economy over the last five decades.

The company clarified that it had not set the price for PMS, pointing out that pricing decisions will be officially announced by the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries. This sub-committee, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is set to begin operations on October 1, 2024. Until then, Dangote Group urged the public to disregard the claims made by Soneye and to await official pricing details.

The statement further noted that the current crude stock used by the Dangote Refinery was procured in dollars, highlighting that PMS was sold to the NNPC in dollars at a much lower rate than what is currently being imported. According to Dangote, this would result in significant savings for the NNPC, benefiting Nigerians by ensuring that PMS is made available across the country, including in remote areas.

In addressing the concerns of Nigerians regarding fuel availability, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, reassured the public that Dangote Group is committed to providing a reliable supply of high-quality petroleum products. This move, he stated, would put an end to the country’s persistent fuel scarcity and contribute to stabilizing the energy

sector.
