Yusuf Muazu, the youth leader of the Buda community in Kajuru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, where at least 62 people were abducted during the bandit attack, stated in an interview with Punch that the kidnappers informed him that the victims were starving and that they needed to find food for them. Muazu claimed that when they learned that the troops had already slain the people they had dispatched to retrieve the food, they had already begun searching for the food the robbers had requested. The kidnappers told me that the victims were hungry and we should find food for them. They said when the food was ready, they would tell us where we’d meet them so that they could collect it. We were in the process of looking for the food requested by the bandits when soldiers accosted and killed those whom the bandits sent to collect the food. The bandits didn’t tell us where we were going to meet, and we didn’t know when the security men entered the bush and killed two of them.”

He continued, “The bandits thought we were the ones who set them up to fall into the hands of the soldiers. As a result, the bandits said they wouldn’t give the victims food.
