Hon. Dachung Bagos, a former member of the House of Representatives, has said that there is no proof that the killings occurring in Plateau state right now are driven by politics. In an interview that aired this morning on Channels Television, Hon. Bagos underlined this point. He also brought up an important demographic issue, noting that almost 90% of the people living in the Mangu local government—where the killings are taking place—are Christians. If there was political motivation for the violence, he reasoned, it would probably include members of the political parties who controlled that specific local government. Because if this crisis is political, you would hear that the killings is between a political group among them, PDP, LP, APGA or APC. That would’ve been the kind of crisis we will be hearing if this was political, so why are we now looking at it politically especially in Mangu? People come, kill, chase the villagers away and occupy their lands. That’s genocide, that’s land grabbing so what has that got to do with politics?
