They claim the former chairmen, in defiance of the state government and legal directives, attempted to orchestrate a “kangaroo swearing-in ceremony” early Tuesday morning, defying the expiration of their tenure on June 17th.
The lawmakers cited various legal provisions, including Sections 37(1) of the Criminal Code Act, 39 of the Nigeria Police Act, and 12 and 23 of the Criminal Procedure Code, as justification for pursuing treason charges.
They argue that the former chairmen’s actions constitute an attempt to unlawfully seize power, violating the constitutional principle of lawful governance.
The G-60 group also lauded Governor Fubara for his democratic approach in allowing the former chairmen to complete their full three-year terms despite the “provocative acts carried against him” in recent months.
They called on the judiciary to remain vigilant in curbing any attempts to undermine the institutions of governance in Rivers State or elsewhere in the country.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
