In a report by Punch, Uche, while responding to Dibia’s assertion that the Ikwerre do not belong to the Igbo tribe, highlighted the views of prominent Ikwerre individuals who have identified as Igbo. Uche mentioned figures like Chibuike Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State, and Chief Emmanuel Aguma, the first Ikwerre minister, who have openly embraced their Igbo heritage. He also said the first Ikwerre poet, Okogbule Wonodi, who was a registrar of University of Port Harcourt, said he was an Igbo man. Uche questioned why Dibia’s statements were receiving more media attention than the perspectives of these influential Ikwerre figures.
