According to the report by The Nation, the spokesperson for the IYC, Amb. Binebai Yeri Princewill, said that the Ijaw people will not condone any form of outrageous statement about their people and their land being part of Biafra.

Princewill said that their attention has been drawn to a video on social media showing Simon Ekpa, who is in exile masquerading as the leader of Biafra, establishing that the territories of Ijaw are part of the “imaginary Biafra.”

He said that in the video, Simon Ekpa said that Biafra people were attacked by the Nigerian soldiers.

Princewill said that Simon Ekpa was referring to the attack on Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, where 17 soldiers were killed on March 14, and the subsequent attack that was carried out by the Nigerian Army in Igbomotoru community in Bayelsa State.

The IYC spokesperson said that the major struggle that the Ijaw people are concerned about is resource control and not breaking away from Nigeria. The group said that they are not part of Biafra and do not believe in its ideology.

Princewill said, “We are Ijaw people. We are Nigerians in the Niger Delta. We don’t have any ties or whatever with the Biafran people and their agitation.

“Finally, the IYC is using this medium to inform the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Nigerian military that all the areas mentioned are not part of Biafra and can never be part of Biafra. IYC will not allow any purported attack on the military in our territories.” CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
