'It's An Indictment For The Kano Governor To Be Thanking Tinubu After Supreme Court Ruling' -According to Kenneth Okonkwo

The governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has come under fire from Nigerian lawyer Barrister Kenneth Okonkwo for congratulating President Bola Tinubu following the Supreme Court ruling. Okonkwo saw this as an implicit admission that the President might have an impact on judicial rulings. He compared it to someone congratulating Joe Biden for a favorable Supreme Court ruling, calling it ridiculous, and applied it to the US. As an attorney, he was aware of the customary practice of thanking judges for their hard work and dedication in rendering decisions, regardless of the circumstances. He said in an interview with Channels TV, ”It is very unfortunate that in Nigeria, people now become grateful when people do what they ought to do. And the reason is because people have gotten used to people who do what they shouldn’t do. So ordinarily what should have just been they are doing their job, and you are now grateful that they did the right thing. It’s an indictment for Kano governor to be thanking Tinubu after the Supreme Court ruling. Because you are actually saying that if the President wanted, he would have directed the Judiciary to rule in a particular manner.

It’s like the Supreme Court of the United States of America gives a judgment and then you go to thank Joe Biden for making you to have a favorable judgment, it’s so absurd. If you say you are grateful to the Supreme Court, as odd as it is, it is still acceptable. As a lawyer, even when the Judges finish their judgment.
