He voiced concerns on Nigeria’s power sector’s lack of modernization and mentioned a propensity to postpone solving problems to later administrations. He told of an unexpected incident in which, while on a visit to London, the governor of Niger State directly contacted him. He asserted that the governor sought his advice in this rare interaction to handle the state’s power issues.
He said in an interview with Channels TV, ”There is modernity in the power sector globally and our country just seems to be able to turn a blind eye to things and say, maybe the next guy will fix it. It took 20 years for the miracle in Aba to happen, we produced 180 MW [megawatts] in South Africa in 3½ months. I have done my part in presenting my case to the wonderful people of Nigeria to understand that you need a modern head for a modern problem.
I will tell you one miracle that has happened and I don’t believe it and I have to keep thinking to myself that where did this man come from? The governor of Niger State reached out to me a couple of weeks ago in London and said we need to talk. He said I need to fix the problem of power in my state, how do we do it?
