A group of Israeli soldiers performing a raid in the region were targeted by the militants of Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, which released a statement claiming that their fighters had detonated a minefield in Khuza’a, east of Khan Younis.
The statement claimed, according to Al Jazeera, that several Israeli soldiers were killed and injured as a result of the explosion.
The Qassam Brigades also said that they attacked an Israeli bulldozer that was trying to clear the minefield with an anti-tank missile, damaging the vehicle and forcing it to retreat.
Meanwhile, the al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Islamic Jihad, said that they carried out a joint operation with the Qassam Brigades in the Ma’an area in Khan Younis, where they fired several rockets and anti-tank missiles at three Israeli Merkava tanks. The statement said that the attack caused direct hits and inflicted losses on the Israeli side.
The Israeli military has not confirmed or denied the claims of the Palestinian factions, but said that it was aware of the reports and was looking into them.
