Israel Katz, the foreign minister of Israel, has applauded the decision made by a number of Western nations to halt funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), saying that the organization has to be “replaced.” CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
Al Jazeera claims that Israel has been criticizing the organization for many years. UNRWA’s financing has been discontinued by the US, Canada, Finland, Australia, Italy, and the UK because employees were involved in the attack launched by Hamas on October 7. Katz urged other countries to follow suit, claiming that UNRWA’s affiliations with Hamas, which include giving terrorists sanctuary and sustaining its control, are irrefutable.
He also called for the leadership of UNRWA to be dismissed and thoroughly investigated for their knowledge of these activities. In Gaza’s rebuilding, UNRWA must be replaced with agencies dedicated to genuine peace and development.
The suspension of potentially hundreds of millions of dollars in funding by a number of Western countries could not have come at a worse time for Gazans, who are in the middle of an ever-worsening humanitarian catastrophe, facing death, hunger, and disease as a result of Israel’s attacks and siege on the territory.
UNRWA supports nearly six million Palestinians in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, as well as in neighboring Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon. UNRWA said that it had fired the accused workers, and the UN is investigating the Israeli claims. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
