The military spokesman, R.Adm. Daniel Hagari, stated that although Israel anticipates some resistance and rocket fire from the north, Hamas has lost its organizational headquarters and is now just composed of a few warriors. He claimed that over 8,000 Hamas fighters had been killed by the military, but he offered no evidence.
Hagari said the south would require a different approach from the north, where Israel used massive air strikes and ground troops to level entire neighborhoods. He said the military is targeting urban refugee camps that are full of gunmen, and has uncovered an extensive network of tunnels under Khan Younis, a city in the south.
