Ebrahim Raisi of Iran and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey reportedly reviewed the most recent events in the region and reiterated their support to the Palestinian cause, according to a statement from the Turkish president’s office.

According to NBC News, The statement said that the Turkish government has provided humanitarian aid to the civilians in Gaza, which has been under a blockade by Israel since 2007. However, it did not specify how else the two countries would support the Palestinians.

Iran is a staunch ally of Hamas, the Islamist group that controls Gaza and has fought several wars with Israel. Iran does not recognize Israel’s existence and has repeatedly called for its destruction.

Turkey, on the other hand, has had a complicated relationship with Israel. The two countries were once close partners, but their ties have deteriorated in recent years due to Erdoğan’s criticism of Israel’s policies and his support for the Palestinians.
