In an interview with The Punch, Chief Sanya Atofarati, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) zonal publicity secretary for the South-West geographical zone, discussed party activities. Speaking about allegations that some people continue to link the nation’s current problems to the Peoples Democratic Party’s past administrations, Atofarati said that Nigerians could attest that the PDP’s economic policies were more viable for the nation than those of the All Progressives Congress.

He said, “For instance, today, we know how the prices of commodities have skyrocketed. For example, in 1999, a bag of rice was N4,000 and in 2015, it was N8,200. The increase during the period was only N4,200. But now, a bag of rice is not less than N80,000. To the issue of petrol, in 2012, former President Goodluck Jonathan made a move to remove the subsidy.”

He claimed that if the subsidy had been removed at that time, fuel would have sold for N141 per litre, but the people in the All Progressives Congress, out of conspiracy, moved against it and mobilized people to protest.

He alleged that the APC people occupied major cities in the country, they prevailed on President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to reverse the decision, and he reversed it, and petrol was sold at N97 per litre.

He added, “But today, the All Progressives Congress’ government, claimed that they had removed the fuel subsidy, but I can’t see the effectiveness of that subsidy. All you can see is hardship.” CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
