Three significant oil marketers have decided to import gasoline rather than buy it from the Dangote Refinery, according to a story from The Punch. According to reports, these marketers anticipate receiving a shipment of three vessels carrying approximately 141 million liters of gasoline. The decision to import petrol is linked to the rising prices of Dangote petrol. The marketers revealed that after the Nigerian government fully deregulated the downstream oil sector, they opted for imports due to the increased costs of Dangote petrol.
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) also stated that all imported petrol would undergo three mandatory tests before being sold in the market.
The NNPC disclosed that petrol from the Dangote Refinery could be sold at over N1,000 per litre in the northern regions, with prices reaching as high as N1,019 per litre in Borno State and N999.22 in states like Abuja, Sokoto, and Kano.
In contrast, the price in Oyo and Rivers states could be around N960 per litre, while Lagos would see the lowest rate at N950 per litre.
According to Punch, oil marketers confirmed that deregulation of the oil sector has taken full effect, and three dealers are awaiting the arrival of their imported petrol.
Each dealer is expecting approximately 35,000 metric tonnes of petrol, which translates to around 141 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
