When Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party in the 2023 election, visited Makinde in his state to offer his condolences for the explosion that resulted in several fatalities and the destruction of numerous buildings, Makinde disclosed the information.
Speaking during the visit, Makinde thanked Peter Obi for the visit, and said that Obi did not allow politics to come into this, because he came to commiserate with him over what happened in his state.
According to the report by Sahara Reporters, Makinde said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu called him after the explosion, and now Obi has also come to commiserate with him, yet Atiku Abubakar who belongs to the same party as him has neither called nor sent him a text.
He also disclosed that investigations are ongoing to find out more information about the explosion.
He said, “Actually, though investigation for details is still going on, it was simply illegal miners storing explosives in an environment where they shouldn’t be, where people live, not mining sites. All the lapses that allow such to happen have been looked into.
“I’m particularly grateful because the President called me, you (Obi) have reached out to me, but my own party candidate, not even a call or a text message.
