IGP Says: On the issue of state police, it is the submission of the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) that Nigeria is not yet mature

Despite the high degree of insecurity around the nation, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. Kayode Egbetokun has stated that he feels Nigeria is not mature enough to establish a state police force. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

The Inspector General of Police reportedly revealed this information on Monday at a national discussion on state police in Abuja with the topic “Pathways to Peace: Reimagining Policing in Nigeria,” according to Sahara Reporters.

Speaking further, the Inspector General of Police made it known that State Governors could use the State Police under their care for their personal and political gain and also undermine human rights and security.

Some parts of the statement read: “On the issue of state police, it is the submission of the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) that Nigeria is not yet mature and ready for the establishment of state-controlled police.

Furthermore, the Inspector General of Police suggested that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Federal Road Safety should form a department under the Nigerian police. The inspector general of police went on and noted that there is a need to ramp up the yearly recruitment of officers.

The event was attended by several notable Nigerians, including former president Goodluck Jonathan. While speaking, former president Jonathan made it known that state police has become “non-negotiable,” due to high level of insecurity across the country.

On the other hand, the Vice President of the country, Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to building a better police force for the country.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
