He claimed that the Igbo people’s sincere attempts to advance development are what led to this abuse. He emphasized Lagos’s crucial function as the nation’s capital following Nigeria’s union in 1914. He said in an interview with Arise TV, ‘”We feel very sad about what is happening to us. When we came together as one country, Lagos became a capital. The moment in 1914 when Lagos was made the capital territory of Nigeria. It was the duty of all Nigerians to come together to develop our capital. Our capital in Lagos became the pride of our country. Igbos came in and participated. I must tell you that Igbos by nature once they say they are with you, they are with you. Igbos played a lot to develop the place. We are not saying Igbos built Lagos alone. We didn’t say there were no other capitals, they were. The point is that they played a major role in sharpening the destiny of Lagos. The same thing with Abuja, when Abuja was made the federal capital, the Igbos moved in.
