SAN Olisa Agbakoba, a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, has argued against the idea that killing terrorists and outlaws would result in the insurgency war being won. He explained why fighting insurgencies with a military strategy alone is unsuccessful. He advocated for a different strategy, asserting that the key to overcoming insurgency and insecurity lies in engaging in discussions and peace meetings. Drawing parallels with historical events such as the Vietnam War and referencing other global conflicts, the speaker cautioned against relying exclusively on military solutions.

He said in an interview with Arise TV, ”I have told Mr President and the Senate President that we are not going to win the insurgency by military solution. We know how much the government has devoted in terms of budgeting to the military. What we see is money goes to the military, it is misused, the service Chiefs are sacked, new ones come in and it goes on and on but no solution.

We are not going to win the insurgency war by military option, we are going to win the problem of insurgency and insecurity by discussion. You have got to call everybody to a peace meeting and resolve this problem. If you think you are going to shoot Bandits and terrorists out, then you are joking. Look at what America did in Vietnam and lost. Look at all the wars, look at what happened in Cuba. The military solution to Nigeria’s problem will fail.
