Former presidential spokesperson Reno Omokri has responded to the nearly sixty individuals that have died in Plateau communities. He said he couldn’t believe what had happened and that he was waiting for proof of the massacres in Plateau State before speaking, which is exactly what I did. He denounced the incident and demanded that the Tinubu government fulfill its obligations by seeing to it that the perpetrators of the Plateau State killings are held accountable. Speaking further in his post on Twitter, Reno Omokri stated that there were records of accidental killings during Maulud 2023, as Muslims marked the birth of prophet Muhammad, and now we have a deliberate slaughter as Christians commemorate the birth of Yeshua (Jesus). He went further to express his condolences to the families of the victims. He stated, “My prayers are with the survivors and families of those who were killed. May God grant them the fortitude to bear their loss and the courage and vigor to press for justice.”
According to him, “I was waiting to confirm the killings in Plateau State before speaking, and I just did. This condemnable act is all the more egregious, seeing as it happened on a day when those who were murdered were celebrating the symbolic birth of Christ. We had accidental killings during Maulud 2023, as Muslims marked the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Salla Allahu Alayhi Wasalaam). And now, we have a deliberate slaughter as Christians commemorate the birth of Yeshua. Shouldn’t Nigerians be able to honor their prophets without having their blood spilled? I call on the Tinubu administration to live up to its responsibilities and ensure that those behind this carnage are brought to book. Impunity is the reason why these killings have persisted for so long. Justice is the reason why they will peter out.”
