Tanko, who is from Kano State in northern Nigeria, said that many people in his area supported Peter Obi in an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on Mic On Podcast. He made a point of saying that his people in Kano voted for Peter Obi and that he is a true resident of Kano State.

Tanko said this support was genuine and not influenced by any manipulation of votes. He also said he supported Peter Obi and he helped Obi win eight polling units in Kano. He added that the support Peter Obi got came from different parts of the country.
