How Can We Be Talking About Opposition Sponsoring Protests In The Strongholds Of APC?—According to Lukman

Salihu Mohammed Lukman, a former national vice chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has chastised the party for attributing the recent demonstrations against economic hardship in several regions of the nation on the opposition. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

The high cost of living and the seeming inaction of the government in addressing the economic problems were the main causes of the protests that broke out last week in Minna, the capital of Niger State.

Speaking with the press, the demonstrators claimed that they were experiencing never-before-seen levels of hunger and poverty and that some families were unable to pay for basic needs.

According to Daily Post, the APC, however, dismissed the protests as a ploy by the opposition to discredit the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is widely expected to seek re-election in 2025.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Lukman, who is a loyalist of Tinubu, challenged the party’s claim and urged the government to address the economic situation before it worsens.

He said that the protests took place in the strongholds of the APC, and wondered how the opposition could have orchestrated them.

He also expressed his disappointment with the statement by the party’s national publicity secretary, Felix Morka, who accused the opposition of being behind the protests.

He said, “If the truth must be told, there is hunger in the land. As a committed member of APC, it is very depressing that this is happening under the leadership of our party. Even more depressing was the statement issued by Mr Felix Morka, our national Publicity Secretary, alleging that opposition parties are behind the protests.”

He added, “How can we be talking of opposition sponsoring protests in the strongholds of the APC? Both Minna and Kano are strongholds of APC. In the case of Minna, Niger State, APC is the ruling party. Kano is the home state of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the APC National Chairman.”

He called on the party and the government to listen to the grievances of the people and take urgent steps to improve the economy and the living standards of Nigerians. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
