Retired Nigerian lawyer and political activist Dele Farotimi has disapproved of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s claims that President Muhammadu Buhari’s former administration put him in a terrible financial state. Dele Farotimi asserts that President Tinubu never inherited a grave economic condition from the Muhammadu Buhari administration since, in his view, Bola Ahmed Tinubu—acting as Buhari’s proxy—was the true leader of Nigeria. He made this claim in an interview that was broadcast by the Sahara Reporters and posted to his YouTube page.

Additionally, he mentioned that President Tinubu was present for the whole of the Buhari government, but he had nothing negative to say about it. In fact, during his presidential campaign, he made it evident that he would carry on the Buhari administration’s programs.

In his words, “when I hear Tinubu talking as if there’s a disconnect between himself and Buhari, who left the office, it baffles me. If he claims that he has inherited a bad situation, the question is: from whom? It’s the same people, the same character, and the same man who has been there throughout the eight years of the Buhari administration; he had nothing to say against Buhari, and when he (Tinubu) was coming in, he made it clear that he was going to continue the policies of the Buhari administration.
